IN THIS LESSON:

What’s the difference between a Postpartum Doula, a Mütterpflegerin, a Hebamme, and your well-meaning aunt?

A Postpartum Doula offers non-medical, holistic support—focused on mothering the mother with food, rest, emotional care, and practical help. It’s an unregulated role in Germany (for now!), with flexible training paths and private or partial insurance payment.

A Mütterpflegerin works under stricter guidelines, often through agencies, with support tied to medical need and insurance approval.

A Hebamme is a medical pro—essential but often overbooked—focusing on baby weight, healing, and health checks.

And friends and family? Lovely, but rarely neutral, trained, or reliably present.

Know your role. Speak it clearly. You’re not competing—you’re complementing.
